About Me

Mikey Hernandez currently resides in Irving, Texas. He started off as a musician and a colorguard performer and later spent over twenty years as a colorguard designer and choreographer. Through colorguard, he was able to explore and convey the mood and storyline of a song through staging, color and motion.

Later on in life, he started painting with oil paints for recreation and enjoyed it as it allowed him to channel his creative side in a different direction. This passion for painting grew immensely, yet the fear of taking the leap to become a professional artist haunted him for a short while. Mikey redirected these fears by becoming a high school art and painting teacher, where he was able to grow as both an educator and an artist.

In 2021, he was accepted into the MA/MFA program at the University of Dallas, where he found his voice as a mixed-media artist making large scale, non-representational works on paper. Currently, he is in his last year of the MFA program.
